Everything has a gimmick. No shields & extra health is the rough riders gimmick. It can also trigger skills that have the condition of "when shield breaks", which is mainly going to be krieg, but it can turn him into an even bigger beast than usual. Good for starting into UVHM. Just so happens to be perfectly parted. Going into the green tree for all the defensive perks with a rough rider shield makes you really tanky when using the clone.
